A Day in the Life of Henry VanDyke

Posted on Monday, May 24th, 2010 at 8:00 am

A few weeks ago I told Erin that she needed to take pictures if anything interesting happened while I was at work. When I came home she surprised me with an extensive pictorial highlight reel of the day.

As you can see, they had a full day. It makes me think I need to say home with them so I don’t miss out on the fun!

Out like a light

He was so cute we couldn't help but take a picture.

Henry wasn’t feeling good Thursday night and was acting pretty pitiful. In fact, he fell asleep on me and stayed asleep through the night, missing his last meal. A quick trip to see Dr. Mathieu and few doses of antibiotics later, Henry was back to his normal self.

Ah, mucho better!

Playing at the Park

Posted on Thursday, May 20th, 2010 at 8:00 am

Now that Henry is sitting up, we’ve been able to explore new places including a park near our house.

Henry enjoys the swings, which are made specifically for young kids. They also have a sand pit which Henry liked sitting in and amazingly didn’t trying eating, too much.

Bibs by Elizabeth

Posted on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at 8:00 am

A friend of ours from college, Elizabeth, sent us a bib that she made as a gift. It was immediately named our favorite bib. It is longer than most bibs which covers his whole upper body. The hole for his neck is the perfect size. It’s not big enough for food to fall through but not too tight either. Plus, it has a soft towel back and a great print on the front.

Erin emailed and asked if we could pay Elizabeth to make us a few more bibs. She agreed and now four bibs by Elizabeth share the title of favorite bib. We then convinced Elizabeth that she should set up a store on Esty to sell the bibs.

So, if you would like a bib by Elizabeth, just go to pinknu4se.etsy.com and buy a few. Tell her Henry sent you!

We didn't specifically ask for a bib to match the high chair, but Elizabeth is good like that.

Reading at an Early Age

Posted on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010 at 8:00 am

We’ve been reading to Henry since shortly after he was born and he seems to always enjoy it. We’re counting on that to turn into a college scholarship, a graduate degree and a Noble Prize.

Early reading

We're wondering if his favorite book, the Hungry Caterpillar, is contributing to his tendency to stick everything in his mouth.

Fresh and Frozen Food

Posted on Monday, May 17th, 2010 at 8:00 am

Now that he is eating semi solid food, we’re having fun experimenting to see what types of food Henry likes.

Erin has been buying, cooking an pureeing various fruits and vegetables for Henry to try. We freeze most of it in ice cube trays to keep for later. Two veggie cubes is about the right amount for each meal.

The good news is that so far he has liked most everything we’ve given him, although the jury is still out on peas.

Unlike his father, Henry is good about eating his vegetables.

Who would have thought that my freezer would be full of veggies?

Riding in the cart

Henry has outgrown his infant car seat so today was his first trip to Target where he got to ride in the cart.

We think he was just reaching for us and not the credit cards.

Great Peggi and Ray’s Visit

Posted on Wednesday, May 12th, 2010 at 8:00 am

Erin’s Aunt and Uncle passed through town on the way home from one of their many adventures. Luckily they were here long enough for us to catchup with them at Granny and Grandpa’s. This was the first time for them to meet Henry but he took to them right away.

Peggi and Ray seemed to think Henry was pretty great too.

We were a little surprised that Granny and Grandpa shared long enough to get this picture.

Henry at Seven Months

Posted on Monday, May 10th, 2010 at 8:00 am

Henry is seven months old and weighs right at 20 pounds.

He has accomplished the following milestones:

  • Sits up without support
  • Sits in stroller without infant carrier
  • Puts two to three sounds together
  • Passes objects from one hand to another
  • Wears 9 – 12 months clothes
  • Knows objects are still there even when out of sight
