Out like a light

Henry VanDyke asleep on James VanDyke's shoulder

He was so cute we couldn't help but take a picture.

Henry wasn’t feeling good Thursday night and was acting pretty pitiful. In fact, he fell asleep on me and stayed asleep through the night, missing his last meal. A quick trip to see Dr. Mathieu and few doses of antibiotics later, Henry was back to his normal self.

Ah, mucho better!

Sleeping Boys

All three VanDyke boys asleep on the couch.

I’m the photographer for most of our pictures but occasionally Erin gets a hold of the camera and catches me unaware.

Henry at Three Months

Henry turned three months old just before he celebrated his first Christmas.

At three months Henry has achieved the following milestones:

  • Making more noises or “talking”
  • Turns head towards people talking or loud sounds
  • Holding his head steady for long periods
  • Pays attention to things around him, especially lights
  • Started sucking thumb, fingers and whole fist
  • Sleeping through the night
  • Smiling regularly

Evening scenes

These days our typical evening involves feeding, bathing and playing with Henry.

His bath times are getting better since we started putting his baby tub in the real tub and running the water while he’s in there. Most nights after his bath we’ll put on his PJs. We’re well stocked with footie pajamas so his feet stay warm throughout the evening. He’s also becoming slightly more interactive. He’ll watch whoever is in front of him and make noises occasionally. Usually, he’ll call it a night around 9 p.m. and fall asleep and we promptly follow.

Here are some pictures of our evenings:

Crib Notes

A place for his head.

A place for his head.

After much weeping and gnashing of teeth, we’ve selected a crib for Henry. He will be resting his sweet little head in the  Da Vinci Kalani Convertible Crib in Espresso. I’m not sure if Erin picked it because she liked the color or it just reminds her of coffee.

One of our first friends to have a baby, the Halls, introduced us to the concept of convertible cribs. These cribs change from a normal crib into a full size bed with the addition of converter rails. With any luck, Henry will be able to use the bed for the rest of his life.

Now like most furniture, they sell you the big pieces at reasonable prices and commit extortion on the accessories. So two wooden boards (a.k.a. conversion rails) end up costing one third of the entire crib.

We purchased the aforementioned crib and rails from SimplyBabyFurniture.com. We originally found the crib on Target’s website but they didn’t have the conversion rails available.
